Ghubaiba Metro Station: Timings, Routes, Fares, Exits and Nearby Places

    Ghubaiba Metro Station:

Ghubaiba Metro Station is one of the main stations on the historic Bur Dubai section of the Green Line. It is convenient to access Al Shindagha, Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood and Dubai Creek. It’s also close to bus and marine transport links, providing further opportunities for passengers to make their way onward and outward. Depending on the destination, passengers can change to the metro, buses, taxis, and traditional abra service. It is especially beneficial for visitors who are interested in exploring Old Dubai, the traditional markets, the museums of Dubai, and the waterfront attractions. The station serves as a convenient hub for commuters and tourists alike, connecting Dubai’s historic areas with the city’s broader public transport system.

Ghubaiba Metro Station at a Glance

According to the Roads and Transport Authority of Dubai, the station is officially named G24 Al Gubaiba on Dubai’s Green Line. RTA’s network map shows it between Al Ras (G23) and Sharaf DG (G25), and the broader Green Line is between e& (G11) and Creek (G30).

    Detail Information
    Official RTA name Al Gubaiba
    Station code G24
    Metro line Green Line
Area Bur Dubai / Al Shindagha
    Station type Underground
Nearby transport Al Ghubaiba Bus Station and marine transport
Closest Green Line stations Al Ras and Sharaf DG
    Interchange stations Union and BurJuman
Main uses Old Dubai, Al Shindagha, Al Fahidi, Creek-side travel

According to RTA, the two interchange stations for the Red and Green lines are Union and BurJuman. This means the Red Line travellers will be able to change between its stations and will not need to get off the train.

It is often misspelled. The current network map by RTA is named “Al Gubaiba,” and many travel sites and maps are named “Al ghubaiba.” Both are for the same Green Line station.

    Ghubaiba Metro Station Location

The station is located in the Al Shindagha area, opposite Dubai Creek in Dubai Bur Dubai. It is more conveniently located for visitors visiting the historic areas to the west of the Creek, compared to the more recent business and residential areas in Dubai.

This is one of the important benefits, as all transport services are gathered around the station. Al Ghubaiba Bus Station is operated by RTA, and there is Al Ghubaiba Marine Station for marine transportation. This provides a convenient link between railway, road and waterborne transport.

RTA claims Al Ghubaiba Bus Station opened in October 2020. It is housed in a 2,452-square-meter site, with 50 bus spaces, 48 parking spaces, a bus stand for 34 taxis, and 60 bicycle parking spaces. It is stated to have a capacity of up to 15,000 passengers per day.

This is important for visitors because it’s not an isolated metro station. It can serve as a transshipment point if the end destination is not on the rail line.

    Dubai Metro Green Line Route

    Dubai Metro Green Line Route

This station is located on the Green Line, connecting the eastern and western sections of the older Dubai localities. RTA’s latest map shows that the route goes around the station in the order Al Ras, Al Gubaiba, Sharaf DG and BurJuman.

From Sharaf DG, passengers proceed to BurJuman, Oud Metha, Dubai Healthcare City, Al Jadaf and arrive at Creek. Passengers go the other way through Al Ras, Gold Souq, Baniyas Square and Union and onwards to the northern side of the city.

BurJuman is particularly significant to travellers travelling to central Dubai. It is a transfer station between the Green and Red lines, which will enable the transfer between the two lines towards Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall, Business Bay, Mall of the Emirates, Dubai Internet City, etc., to continue on the Red Line.

There is another Red Line connection at Union. Interchange depends on the destination and direction of travel, so it is better to check the RTA journey planner (or S’hail before travelling rather than using a general route estimate.

    Metro Timings

According to the current general metro timetable, all the Dubai Metro lines will be open from 7:30 am to 9:30 pm.

    Day Metro operating hours
Monday to Thursday 5:00 AM – 12:00 AM
Friday 5:00 AM – 1:00 AM the next day
    Saturday 5:00 AM – 12:00 AM
    Sunday 8:00 AM – 12:00 AM

These are the hours the network will be open, as opposed to a train being on time to depart the station at the stated time. The times listed for service departures are also dependent on service pattern and direction.

Use the RTA timetable or S’hail journey-planning service just before travelling for a specific journey. This is especially important for nighttime travel as in some cases it may be necessary to catch the last train and then take a taxi to get home. RTA offers public transportation users timetable and departure-board services.

Normal schedules may also be impacted by special-event days, public holidays or operational changes. RTA will temporarily post service-hour announcements if there are changes.

    Fares and Nol Card

    Fares and Nol Card

Fares for Dubai Metro are calculated according to the number of fare zones crossed in a trip. RTA currently charges these regular Nol Card rates:

Journey tier Silver / Personal Gold
    Within 1 zone AED 3 AED 6
    2 adjacent zones AED 5 AED 10
More than 2 zones AED 7.50 AED 15

A Red Ticket will be AED 4 for a ride within one zone, AED 6 between two neighbouring zones, or AED 8.50 for cross-zone rides. The Gold class Red Ticket fares charge more.

What’s important is that the fare is based on the zones covered, and not just the starting station. Hence, it was inappropriate to give a single price for a single journey from this station.

RTA is also able to make transfers between metro and bus within a single journey if the transfer condition is satisfied. It is now scheduled to have a maximum transfer time of 30 minutes between modes, and the fare between zones will be charged.

A nol card is therefore the most convenient way to pay for visitors who anticipate using a number of modes of public transport. According to RTA, Nol will be available on Metro, buses, tram and marine transport, besides some other services.

Getting to Al Fahidi and Old Dubai

The historic areas of Dubai are among the best advantages that one gets while using this station. Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood is a historic area along Dubai Creek, with its traditional architecture, narrow streets, wind towers, galleries, museums and cultural facilities. The article by Visit Dubai focuses on the neighbourhood’s traditional architecture and its cultural and historic attractions, which are still intact.

It is better to walk around the Old Dubai area than to drive from one attraction to another. This transition from transport infrastructure to older streets, waterfront areas, and heritage sites is abrupt and dramatic after leaving the station.

Another draw is Al Shindagha. Visit Dubai highlights that Bur Dubai is one of the oldest areas of Dubai and that Al Shindagha Museum is included in the list of main cultural attractions in Dubai.

The station may be used as a walking point of origin to explore Al Shindagha, Creek waterfront, and Al Fahidi for those who wish to explore the history.

    Al Ghubaiba Bus Station Connection

    Al Ghubaiba Bus Station Connection

The bus terminal is nearby, making the station useful beyond the scope of the Green Line. According to the official information of RTA, the Al Ghubaiba Bus Station was designed with customer service areas, retail outlets, and restaurants, in addition to the bus bays, taxi facilities, and bicycle parking. It has a capacity of 15,000 passengers a day, making it an important public-transport centre.

When trying to travel to an area outside the metro network, the bus is helpful. Another benefit is that it can also minimize the need for people to take taxis for the entire trip.

But bus routes and schedules are not set in stone. RTA’s current timetable is the best for departure information and not to be found on an old route list that was posted on a travel blog. RTA offers real-time timetable and departure board services via its travel services.

    Marine Transport and Dubai Creek

The area is also connected to Dubai’s marine transport network. As of now, RTA’s timetable indicates that Bur Dubai Marine Station – Deira Old Souq Marine Station is an on-demand abra service. Other routes in the vicinity of the marine stations, such as Al Fahidi, Al Seef and Dubai Old Souq, are also listed on the same timetable.

For visitors to the area, this can be a convenient method to cross the Creek using public transport. The traditional abras offer a completely different feel than the metro, and are especially helpful if you want to get to the Deira side of the historic area.

RTA also has a route numbered FR1 between Dubai Water Canal Marine Station and Al Ghubaiba Marine Station in Dubai, which is the ferry route between Al Barsha and Al Quoz. Ferry timetables run separately to those of the metro, which should be consulted before travelling.

Ghubaiba Metro Station Facilities and Accessibility

Ghubaiba Metro Station Facilities and Accessibility

A wide variety of passengers are served by Dubai Metro stations. The metro system offers Wi-Fi, ATMs and services for People of Determination, as well as buses, taxis and other public transport, says RTA.

Passengers are required to take note of the signs and digital information screens at the station as to which platforms, exits and connections they should take. The metro guidance also stipulates that all passengers must use Nol cards to get on and off the bus and tap at the card readers at the correct locations provided by RTA.

The station area is also a bustling area since multiple modes of transportation come together in proximity. When travelling with bags, please consider additional walking time from the metro concourse to the bus terminal and to marine facilities.

If a passenger has accessibility requirements, they are encouraged to consult the RTA for current information when planning their trip, particularly if a specific lift, route, or interchange is a necessity for their trip.

    Nearby Places to Visit

The station is located in an ideal place for a heritage day in Dubai. Adjacent places include:

    Al Shindagha Museum

One of the greatest cultural attractions in Bur Dubai is Al Shindagha Museum. It is one of the most important locations in the neighbourhood and is included in Dubai’s list of the best places to visit.

    Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood

Al Fahidi is famous for its preserved structures, traditional wind towers, galleries, museums and narrow lanes. The area is recommended by Visit Dubai as a destination to explore Dubai’s culture and architecture.

    Dubai Creek

The Creek still plays a key role in the history of Old Dubai. The waterfront ties together the historic areas on both sides and provides a variety of marine transportation. Visit Dubai says the Creek is an integral part of Dubai’s rich trading and pearling tradition.

    Textile Souk and Traditional Markets

Traditional markets and shopping streets are found in Old Dubai around the Creek. Dubai offers some traditional market experiences such as the Textile Souk, Gold Souk and Spice Souk, which are all featured on Visit Dubai.

The souks are located on different sides and parts of the Creek, so travellers should arrange walking and marine-transport aspects of the trip and not expect everything to be right next to the station.

Best Way to Use the Station for a Day Trip

To visit the sites with a heritage focus, take the metro from the Dubai International Airport to Al Shindagha and then walk to Al Fahidi. This makes the trip easy and prevents the need to use the road in a congested historic area.

The recommended way to reach here is to take the Green Line, then spend time at the heritage sites around Bur Dubai, before crossing the Creek (by walking or an abra or other marine transport if appropriate) to the Deira side.

If your final destination is on the Red Line, transfer at BurJuman or Union. If it would be more convenient to take the bus, please look at the RTA bus planner before leaving the station to know which bus connection to take.

If you are travelling in the evenings, please look at the most up-to-date operating details before setting off on your return trip. The hours for Metro are published by RTA and may vary from train to train or during certain periods to meet the changing requirements.

    Conclusion

Ghubaiba Metro Station is not just a Green Line Station. It is situated next to Al Shindagha, Dubai Creek, a bus terminal, and marine transport facilities that make it a helpful access point to Old Dubai and a convenient stop on trips around Dubai.

The most appealing thing to visitors is the transport and heritage access. There is no need to drive here: You can take the metro and proceed on foot through the historic area, or you can take buses and travel by marine transportation across the Creek.

Operating hours, routes and services may vary, so please check the final itinerary before leaving with RTA. The official network map, timetable, and nol fare information should be taken as more important than older versions of third-party travel books.
