Abu Dhabi Bus Card Balance Check: Hafilat Balance & Recharge

Abu Dhabi Bus Card Balance Check

Hafilat users can easily check their bus card balance prior to travel using public buses with the Abu Dhabi bus card balance check service. Credit is stored on the Hafilat Smart Card for paying bus fares, and the credit available on the card indicates when it is time to recharge. Official Hafilat services and supported card facilities can be used to check the balance.

Use the official Hafilat service to check the balance of the card by entering the necessary information. The card may also be checked using the available Hafilat machines and on bus rides. You can top up the balance on the card before you travel using authorized card top-up facilities.

    How Hafilat balance works

Abu Dhabi’s smart card for paying for public transport fares is called Hafilat. The card retains value, which is automatically deducted with bus usage.

The card is tapped when the passenger enters and exits the train. The fare is calculated by the system with regard to the journey between the boarding and the alighting point.

Abu Dhabi Mobility in particular recommends that passengers verify they have sufficient credit balance to make at least one journey before boarding and verify the remaining money before exiting the vehicle.

This is significant because the card isn’t like a fixed-price ticket. The standard service charge is made up of an AED 2 boarding fee, then 5 fils per kilometre up to a maximum of AED 5 for trips over 60 km.

The official Hafilat service is connected with the DARBI transport platform. For online card services, such as recharge services, Abu Dhabi Mobility sends users to the website of Hafilat, which is hafilat.darb.ae.

When checking your balance online, don’t go to an unofficial site that purports to give a government balance check; use the official Hafilat/DARBI service.

The exact appearance and the name of the online portal may vary; the user must refer to the options given on the official service. A typical online enquiry would need the card information that the portal would like to see before presenting the available card information.

Where to access the official service

The official Hafilat online service is:

When explaining the online Hafilat recharges, Abu Dhabi Mobility connects users to this address.

For problems loading the page, please visit the Abu Dhabi Mobility website and use the mobility services on the official transport pages instead of any third-party balance-check websites.

Check the balance at a bus station

It is better to conduct a physical check when you are already travelling around Abu Dhabi.

Bus stations and bus stops have sales and recharge machines (TVMs). Balances on a card credited by these machines are immediately visible, according to Abu Dhabi Mobility. Recharge machines are also at bus stations, bus stops and shopping centres.

This provides a means of providing an alternative for passengers when they are unwilling to make use of the web service.

Services related to Hafilat can also be provided at the Customer Happiness Centres, which are located in bus stations. Abu Dhabi Mobility features these centres as being among the places where card services are offered.

Check the card while using the bus

The bus validator is also a crucial component of the handling of your Hafilat card.

Passengers should touch the card when they get on and off the bus. Abu Dhabi Mobility also advises them to verify their account balance prior to disembarking.

The validator thus offers a practical means to track the card during a trip, but it is not, on its own, an authority-provided remote online enquiry service.

A key rule is that if you do not tap off, the full journey charge will be deducted from the next journey. This may also impact transfers.

What happens after an online recharge?

One frequent mistake is paying for a recharge but hoping to see the new amount as soon as they pay it.

The time for an online recharge to reflect is up to two hours, according to Abu Dhabi Mobility. Recharges will take 2 hours via MBME machines.

Balances from sales machines, recharge machines, and Customer Happiness Centres, on the other hand, are captured as soon as they are replicated, according to Abu Dhabi Mobility.

Do not assume that payment has failed if you have just completed an online top-up which has not resulted in a change of balance. Wait for the specified processing time, and then verify the card again to see if it has been processed.

Why your balance may not look updated

The time will be based on the method of recharge.

    • TVM or recharge machine: Abu Dhabi Mobility states that the balance is updated right away.
    • Customer Happiness Centre: the balance is shown immediately.
    • MBME machine: the balance is updated after two hours.
    • Online recharge: the balance will be shown after two hours.

If a recharge does not show up after the published processing period, please retain your payment confirmation. It can assist when reaching out to the appropriate customer service avenue.

    Hafilat card types

Currently, there are several options for Hafilat cards provided by Abu Dhabi Mobility.

It is available without any prerequisites and can be bought from sales and recharge machines, selected retail partners, and Customer Happiness Offices. On its current page in English, the authority indicates that a card costs AED 10.

The Personalized Hafilat Card will be designed for those who require personalized services and eligibility-based benefits. According to Abu Dhabi Mobility, the card itself is free and can be purchased in the Customer Happiness Offices at bus stations and the airport. Eligible persons must have an Emirates ID and personal identification information.

Personalized cards also facilitate some of the subsidized and annual permits, as applicable, for students, seniors, and people of determination, as per the authority’s requirements.

    Hafilat recharge limits and validity

There is a clear cap on the stored-value system.

Abu Dhabi Mobility states that the maximum amount that can be credited through recharge is AED 150. It also says that the recharged balance will last for three months from the recharge date and will need to be activated before the expiry date by travelling with it or tapping it on the machine of the sales/recharge kiosk.

This is NOT the physical validity of the card itself. Users must therefore be able to differentiate between the validity of the card, the validity of the balance stored on the card, and the validity of the public transport pass.

That’s important because a card can be valid, but a specific stored-value recharge might have a specific expiration period.

Abu Dhabi bus fares and Hafilat passes

Understanding of the fare structure makes it possible for the passenger to estimate how much credit he or she would need.

Abu Dhabi Mobility gives a quote of AED 2 for boarding plus 5 fils per kilometre for the current standard public bus service. Fares are capped at AED 5 for trips above 60 km.

Transfers may also lower the cost of a “connected trip. Under Abu Dhabi Mobility conditions, passengers will be able to switch from one public transport service to another without having to pay another AED 2 boarding fee. The other service has to be tapped in within 60 minutes of the previous tap-out; you cannot go in the other direction, and the maximum number of transfers is 2, with 3 buses.

Hafilat also provides public transport passes based on time for frequent travellers.

    Pass Price Validity
    7-day pass AED 35 7 days
    30-day pass AED 95 30 days

These passes are valid for unlimited travel throughout designated city and suburban locations of Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra and not for intercity travel.

The authority also has subsidized rates for eligible passengers receiving social support, so the standard published price should not be taken as the price for each passenger.

Where to buy or recharge a Hafilat card

There are various official channels for passengers to get or top up their Hafilat cards.

Abu Dhabi Mobility includes sales/recharge machines, customer happiness offices, and some retail partners. The authority lists Al Ain Co-operative Society and Lulu Hypermarket and Lulu Exchange branches in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra as the listed branches for Anonymous Hafilat cards.

Abu Dhabi Mobility also suggests users use DARBI to locate transport facilities and machine locations.

Different kinds of cards require different purchases, and personalised cards are sold in the Customer Happiness Offices at the bus stations and the airport. The authority provides a list of the Zayed International Airport office, which is available around the clock for customized card services.

What to do if the balance is not enough

If credit is not sufficient for the trip, top it off before you get on the bus.

The official sales/recharge machine and the recharge machine or Customer Happiness Centre are preferable for immediate credit, as Abu Dhabi Mobility states these channels show the balance immediately.

An online recharge can also be done, but you will have to wait the 2 hours mentioned, after which the amount will show on the card.

A faster-looking balance result doesn’t automatically mean it’s an unverified third-party website. Please use Abu Dhabi Mobility and DARBI for official Hafilat services.

Important Hafilat rules for bus passengers

It’s as imperative to use the card correctly as it is to check the balance.

    • When getting on and off, tap the card twice. Fares are based on the distance between the two places.
    • Secondly, ensure that there is value for a minimum of one trip before you board. This is explicitly mentioned in Abu Dhabi Mobility’s guidelines for the use of Hafilat cards.
    • Thirdly, keep in mind that if you do not tap out, you will lose the entire bus fare if the card is used again. It may also prevent the normal transfer conditions from being applied.

It’s helpful to use a quick Abu Dhabi bus card balance check before embarking on a trip, especially when you have a small balance remaining.

    Conclusion

The most reliable Abu Dhabi bus card balance check options are the official Hafilat/DARBI service and the physical Hafilat facilities provided by Abu Dhabi Mobility. In addition, passengers can check their remaining value by using their card in the normal way on the bus.

The bottom line is that you need to have enough credit for your journey, get in and out correctly, and don’t forget that online recharges may take as long as two hours to be visible. Always check with Abu Dhabi Mobility and DARBI for official information, and don’t trust independent websites for balance checking.
